Home Office/Office
Home offices are going upscale as more people are telecommuting or run a business from home. A properly lit office is just another key to success.
- For general lighting, you have a couple of choices to suit your taste. Along with ceiling fixures, many are now using torchieres, with their crisp white light, to brighten their offices. Just be sure to place these away from flammable window treatments, as they do get hot over time.
- Whatever your ambient light source, try to position the light overheard and not in front of your desk to avoid glare and reflection.
- Your task lighting needs will require a desk or table lamp. If you write with your left hand, place it on the right side of the desk and vice versa. This will prevent troublesome shadows from falling on your paperwork as you write.
- Place your desk or table lamp so it won't reflect on your computer monitor and cause unnecessary eye fatigue.
- Highlight sculptures, vintage books, vases and other items with halogen track lighting, decorative accent lamps or in shelves outfitted with under-cabinet lights.
- Enhance portraits, paintings or degrees with portrait lights, like the kind sold on Eco-lights.com.
