Foyer/Entrance Hall
Since this is where you greet your guest, your foyer should wrap your company in inviting warmth, whatever your style! Invest in a ceiling fixture or wall fixtures to create a bright, cheery atmosphere, making sure your chosen light source sets the tone for the rooms to follow.
- Go ahead and go big if you have a larger hall; multi-tiered ceiling fixtures are A-OK here.
- If your foyer begins at staircase, make sure to adequately light the steps; put eco-friendly dimmer switches at the top and bottom for convenience and flexibility in your lighting design.
- Generally, a fixture that is 36"H is suitable for a 16' ceiling.
- At least 7" should stand between the bottom of your fixture and the floor.
- To figure out a fixture's appropriate diameter, add the length and width of your room in feet and convert the sum to inches (ex: 10' + 7' = 17" fixture).
- Install a flush or semi-flush mount every 8 ft. or so along a hall, or at a bend.
- Hang stairwell chandeliers approximately at knee-level from the upstairs landing.
